BERKELEY, CALIF. - Mizzou Tennis opens up its regular season with a trip to Berkeley, Calif., for the ITA Kick-Off Classic. Mizzou enters the four-team event as the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 seed Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. C.T. Other teams in the competition include nationally-ranked No. 8 California and Xavier. Mizzou will face either California or Xavier on Monday. The Tigers begin the spring season following its historic 2016 season in which the team won 16 matches, the fourth-most in program history. Mizzou has five players returning from last season, who boast a combined 293 wins between them.
STRONG FALL SEASON
- Mizzou kicks off its spring season following its strong performance at the Big Green Invitational in November. The team won 23 matches in the tournament with all eight Tigers winning at least three matches.
- The team finished its fall season with 59 total victories, including an impressive 41 wins in singles play.
- In doubles play, Mizzou had five different doubles pairings finish the fall season with winning records. The pairing of junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) and senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) led the team with a doubles record of 6-2, including a semifinals berth at the ITA Central Region Championships.
- Machado Santos became the fifth Tiger since 2012 to compete in the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2016) during the fall.
- Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) led the team with an impressive 8-2 record in singles play, in both the No. 2 and No. 1 position.
- Mizzou was clutch in tiebreaker sets throughout the fall, finishing off the season by winning 10 of 12 tiebreaker sets at the Big Green Invitational.
100 WIN CLUB
- Two different Tigers surpassed 100 career wins during the fall campaign.
- Machado Santos earned her 100th career win in her opening singles match of the ITA Central Region Championships against South Dakota State's Iasmin Rosa. Machado Santos took the match 6-2, 6-4 to cement herself in Mizzou Tennis history.
- Ismail recorded her 100th career win at the Big Green Invitational. She defeated Yale's Sherry Li, 4-6,6-4, 7-6 (4) on the first day of the tournament to reach the 100-win plateau.
NEWCOMERS SHINE
- Mizzou introduced four new players to its lineup in the fall season and was rewarded with 38 of the team's 59 wins (64.4 percent).
- Ismail, who transferred from Xavier, led the team in the fall season with a 15-6 overall record and a team best 9-3 doubles record.
- Ismail excelled alongside Machado Santos and Lashway in doubles play. She posted a 3-0 doubles record with Lashway during the Big Green Invitational, including a 6-4 victory over the No. 29 doubles pairing of Nicole Robinson/Andjela Djokovic from Purdue.
- Freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) held the second best singles record on the team through the fall season by going 7-3.
- Fellow freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) put together four singles wins, playing mostly in the No. 3 position.
- Schroeder hit her stride late in the fall season when she won three straight doubles matches at the Big Green Invitational with her partner, senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).
- Freshman Claire Sullivan (Memphis, Tenn.) showed consistent improvement in the fall season, posting a 2-1 singles record during the Big Green Invitational. She finished the fall season with four victories.
SCOUTING OLD DOMINION:

REST OF THE FIELD:
- Xavier enters play coming off of a season-opening loss to Purdue, 5-2.
- The ITA Kick Off Classic will serve as the first matches of the 2017 season for No. 8 California. California hosted the Cal Winter Invitational from Jan. 13-15, in which senior No. 49 Maegan Manasse took home the singles title and doubles crown, along with teammate Maya Jansen.
- The Golden Bears have two ranked players in No. 17 Karla Popovic and No. 49 Manasse.
