All-Americans Jackson, Schweizer, Thames, Cody and Montgomery all slated to be in action
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track and Field continues its 2017 indoor campaign at the Commodore Invitational, Jan. 13-14, in Nashville, Tenn. The Tigers will get their first test against fellow Southeastern Conference teams at the meet, as Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt expect to send competitors.
The meet will begin on Friday, with field events at 4 p.m. (CT), followed by running events at 7 p.m. (CT). On Saturday, field events will kick the day off at 10:30 a.m. (CT), followed by running events at 1 p.m. (CT).
The meet will be the second of the indoor season for Mizzou after opening its season last weekend at the Border Battle on Jan. 7 in Iowa City, Iowa. Nine Tigers registered top-three finishes at the meet, including first place finishes from senior LaQuisha Jackson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) in the 60m dash and redshirt sophomore Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) in the shot put. Jackson crossed the finish line first at 7.42, while Jacobs set a personal-record with a throw of 14.88m (48-10). Both will compete in those events again in Nashville.
Sophomore Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) finished second in the 60m dash at the Border Battle, recording a personal record time of 7.48. The time was fast enough to register as the second fastest 60m dash indoor time in school history, a mark Cody previously set by running a 7.54 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Feb. 19, 2016. Cody will run in the 60m dash at Nashville, as well as a leg in the 4x400m relay with Jackson, senior Sydney Wells (Fort Smith, Ark.) and redshirt junior Valerie Thames (Milwaukee, Wis.).
After setting the 5,000m indoor school record at the Boston University Season Opener on Dec. 3, junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) is set to make her first appearance with the Tiger team during the indoor season. Schweizer, received votes to the 2017 Bowerman Preseason Watch List, will race in the mile run on Saturday.
For the men, two-time 400m SEC Champion sophomore Kahmari Montgomery (Plainfield, Ill.) headlines the field for the Tigers. Montgomery, who finished seventh in the 60m dash at the Border Battle, will run in the 200m dash on Friday, as well as the 60m dash and the 4x400m relay on Saturday.
Four Tigers who placed in the top-three of their respective events at the Border Battle – senior Cain Winebrenner (Kansas City, Mo.), redshirt junior Ben Goodman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sophomore Thomas George and redshirt senior Ahren Bohanan (St. Charles, Mo.) – will all be in competition again in Nashville. Winebrenner and Goodman will run in the 800m run, while George will race in the 3,000m run and Bohanan will throw the shot put. Winebrenner and Goodman will also be half of Mizzou's 4,000m distance medley relay team, which will race on Friday evening.
