COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou redshirt senior point guard Lianna Doty was named to the 2017 SEC Women's Basketball Community Service Team, as announced by the league Wednesday. Doty is a three-time Community Service team honoree. She also received the honor in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
The SEC Community Service Team is selected through the league's continuing efforts to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition. This marks the 19th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women's basketball.
Doty is incredibly dedicated to being active in the community. Doty has documented more than 650 hours of community service in her career at Mizzou, which does not count many undocumented endeavors she does in her own spare time. On a weekly basis, Doty makes sure to stop by the Girls and Boys Club and spend time with the kids, whether it is playing some pick up or helping them homework, at least once per week. Doty teaches Sunday School at least twice per month with exception of the conference season. Additionally, Doty volunteers at the Granny House at least twice per week depending on Mizzou's travel schedule.
Notable organizations and events she's been involved with include Read a Thon Prize Day, Mizzou Moves, National Student Athlete Day, Douglas Park Basketball Clinics, International Student Luncheon, Starlight Reading with students, Tiger Paws, B&G Club Hoops for a Cause, Race for the Cure, Special Olympics events and SEC Timeout in the Community. Doty has also taken several trips to the Children's Hospital to visit with kids. In the summer of 2015, she took a mission trip to Los Angeles to work with Athletes in Action in poor communities for a month.
Doty is pursuing a master's degree in Nonprofit Management. She plans to work with an impactful non-profit organization once she finishes her master's program.
On Thursday, Doty and the Tigers wrap up their home schedule on Senior Night vs. Ole Miss. Tip is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus. The pregame senior ceremony is slated to begin at 6:40 p.m.
