GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (5-16, 0-9) could not overcome an early deficit, falling to No. 24 Florida (17-5, 7-2) 93-54, on Thursday night at Exactech Arena. Sophomore guard Terrence Phillips (Orange County, Calif.) led the team in scoring for the fourth time this season, recording14 points while connecting on 4-of-6 shots from three-point territory.
Joining Phillips in double figures was sophomore guard K.J. Walton (Indianapolis, Ind.), who reached double figures for the sixth time this season, scoring 10 points.
The Tigers return home on a quick turnaround for the #RallyForRhyan Game on Saturday, Feb. 4, played in support of Mizzou coaching staff member Brad Loos' daughter, Rhyan Loos, as she battles pediatric cancer. Fans are encouraged to make donations at the gates of Mizzou Arena towards funding pediatric cancer research. Proceeds from the Tiger Team Store's exclusive game t-shirt will be donated, as well. Additionally, 50 percent of the revenue from tickets sold ahead of the Tigers-Razorbacks matchup will go towards the cause.
Walton led the team in scoring in the first half at Florida, chipping in seven points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field. In five minutes off the bench, freshman Reed Nikko (Maple Grove, Minn.) contributed five points in the half, including connecting on 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Despite solid contributions in the half from Walton and Nikko, the Tigers trailed, 48-20 at the halftime intermission.
Phillips scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, but the Tigers could not cut the lead to under 27 points, yielding the 93-54 final result.
