IOWA CITY, Iowa – Nine Tigers registered top-three finishes on Saturday afternoon as the Mizzou Track and Field team open its 2017 indoor season at the Border Battle in Iowa City, Iowa. Highlighting the day for the Tigers was senior LaQuisha Jackson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and redshirt sophomore Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.), who finished first in the 60m Dash and shot put, respectively.
Jackson, who holds the indoor school records in the 60m and 200m Dash, began her season campaign by finishing first in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.42. She crossed the finish line .06 ahead of teammate sophomore Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.), who finished second at 7.48. Cody and Jackson also ran the second and third legs of the 4x400m Relay team for Mizzou which finished third. Senior Sydney Wells (Fort Smith, Ark.) and redshirt sophomore Valerie Thames (Milwaukee, Wis.) ran the first and fourth legs of the race, respectively.
A pair of Tigers finished second in the 600m run as freshman Karina Liz (Aurora, Ill.) finished with a time of 1:37.11 on the women's side and senior Cain Winebrenner (Kansas City, Mo.) crossed the finish line with a time of 1:20.76 on the men's side. In the 1000m run, senior Bailey Hession (Willard, Mo.) finished third with a time of 3:11.38 for the women, while sophomore Thomas George (Gloucester, England) finished third with a time of 2:28.30 for the men. In the mile run, redshirt junior Ben Goodman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished third with a time of 4:14.81.
In the field events, Jacobs recorded a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 14.88m (48-10). Her first place shot put performance was one of two top-three finishes in field events for Mizzou, as redshirt senior Ahren Bohanan (St. Charles, Mo.) finished third in the weight throw with a throw of 17.32m (56-10).
In addition to Liz, six other Tigers made their debuts in the Black & Gold. Redshirt freshman Tyler Gillam (Festus, Mo.), freshman Robert Kuhlmann (Lake Villa, Ill.), freshman Justin Loquercio (Mt. Prospect, Ill.), freshman Dylan Quisenberry (Wildwood, Mo.), redshirt freshman Samantha Farmer and redshirt sophomore Tsai-Anne Joseph (St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago) all made their first appearances on the track for Mizzou.
Following the Border Battle, Mizzou will next compete in the Commodore Invitational, Jan. 13-14 in Nashville, Tenn., before coming home to host the Tiger Invitational on Jan. 20 at the Hearnes Center.
