COLUMBIA, Mo. – Seven grapplers from Mizzou Wrestling were ranked in the first NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings, announced by the organization on Friday. Among the seven wrestlers ranked, four Tigers are ranked in the top-10, including senior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.), who ranks first at 197 pounds.
The final coaches' panel rankings will be one part of the selection process in deciding the field for the 2017 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which will take place March 16-18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Cox, a time-time NCAA Champion at 197 pounds, is 15-0 this season, winning 10 of his matches with bonus point victories. Redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.) checks in at No. 4, while redshirt junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) and redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.) each ranked at No. 6 in their respective weight classes. Mayes earned his second All-America honor at the 2016 NCAA Championships by finishing third, while Lewis earned All-America honor by finishing fourth.
Redshirt freshman 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) ranks in at No. 10, while redshirt sophomore 133-pounder John Erneste (Kansas City, Mo.) checks in at No. 13 and redshirt junior Barlow McGhee (Rock Island, Ill.) at No. 18.
Mizzou begins a five dual home streak on Sunday when the Tigers host No. 16 Central Michigan at the Hearnes Center. The MAC dual is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed through ESPN3.com and the WATCH ESPN app.
