Tigers taking on The Hootie at Bulls Bay Sunday-Tuesday in Awendaw, S.C.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf will look to finish its 2015-16 regular season in strong fashion at The Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, South Carolina. Head coach Mark Leroux's Tigers will take their swings at the Bulls Bay Golf Club, playing a 7,363-yard, par-72 course from Sunday, April 3-Tuesday, April 5.
Mizzou enters the event ready to face stout competition from around the country, including: No. 11 Auburn, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 22 Duke, No. 32 Kentucky, No. 40 N.C. State, No. 44 Kansas, Akron, Maryland, Charleston, Charleston Southern, Wofford, Troy and Wisconsin.
Leroux's lineup for The Hootie is started off with junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandviken, Sweden), who is coming off two-straight Top 25 individual finishes for the Tigers, shooting 2-over-par in both outings. Lilliedahl tied for 23rd (74-74-70 -- 218) at the Linger Longer Invitational (March 20-22) after tying for fifth at the Bandon Dunes Championship (March 6-8) with a 215 (71-73-71).
Sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss.), Mizzou's leader in stroke average at 72.5, follows Lilliedahl in the lineup. Buckley has played well throughout his second Tiger campaign, as he has been Mizzou's first or second-best finisher in all but one of the team's eight events this season.
Junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland) was especially dialed in at last season's The Hootie at Bulls Bay, tying for 29th overall with an even-at-par tournament (69-74-73 -- 216). Walker will look to match that blistering first round from last year's event throughout the entire tournament this time around.
Freshman Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) will appear in his eighth event of the season at The Hootie. The local newcomer has twice placed in a tournament's Top 25 overall, which he accomplished in his first collegiate start at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate (Sept. 6-7, 2015), shooting 5-over-par (72-73-76 -- 221) to tie for 18th place. Echelmeier did so again by tying for 25th place at the Bandon Dunes Championship at 11-over-par (76-72-76 -- 224).
For the first time, both of Mizzou's Echelmeier Brothers will appear in the same lineup. Senior Will Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) will make his first appearance of the season in Awendaw. The elder Echelmeier last represented the Tigers at last season's SEC Championship.
