Sophomore Buckley shoots 1-over-par in Eatonton, Ga.
EATONTON, Ga. - Mizzou Men's Golf placed 11th (288-307-285 -- 880) at the Linger Longer Invitational, Sunday, March 20-Tuesday, March 22, at Reynolds Plantation on the Great Waters Course. For the fourth time this season, the Tigers (+16) were led by sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss.), who shot a 1-over-par on the tournament to tie for 19th overall (70-78-69 -- 217). Buckley's stellar 2015-16 campaign continued with his two rounds-under-par at the Linger Longer, as he has now logged a team-high eight on the season.
Following Buckley in the Tigers' lineup was junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandviken, Sweden), who at 2-over for the tournament (74-74-70 -- 218), was just one stroke off of Buckley's pace. Lilliedahl's strong run continues, as he has finished as one of the Top 2 Tigers in four of his last five events.
Holding down the third spot in head coach Mark Leroux's lineup was junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland). Walker finished the tournament at 7-over-par (73-79-71 -- 223), which was good enough to grab him a share of 41st overall.
Freshmen Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) and Preston Fleenor (Kansas City, Mo.) both gained valuable experience on the course during the event. Echelmeier built on his promising rookie campaign, as his 10-over-par (71-80-75 -- 226) included his first-ever round under-par. For Fleenor, it was his first time out since the Jackrabbit Invitational (Sept. 26-28), and he finished 21-over-par (80-76-81 -- 237).
Leroux's group continues its 2015-16 campaign in Awendaw, South Carolina, at The Hootie at Bull's Bay from April 3-5. The Tigers then head to the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Georgia, from April 15-17.
