@MizzouBaseball Drops Game One of Doubleheader vs. Youngstown

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Baseball (13-4) dropped the first game of the doubleheader against Youngstown State (3-9), 4-3. Tanner Houck (Collinsville, Ill.) took the mound for Mizzou earning his fourth start of the season. He finished the night tallying eight strikeouts, three hits and one walk through six innings in a no-decision.
Mizzou drew first blood in the bottom of the second after a leadoff walk by Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.) to start the inning. Bond stole second for the third time this season, putting him in scoring position for Ian Nelson (Lake St. Louis, Mo.). Nelson stepped into the box with a 2-2 count and ripped the ball down the left field line for an RBI single.
Youngstown State threatened in the top of the third after a leadoff walk for Nico Padovan who then stole second. Lorenzo Acuri came up for Youngstown and singled to second base to drive in Padovan to tie the game.
The game remained tied until the top of the eighth when Acuri drove the ball to the warning track for a double and then scored on a wild pitch.
Mizzou battled back in the bottom of the eighth as Jake Ring (Ingleside, Ill.) reached first on a hit-by-pitch and then stole second for his team-leading 13th stolen base of the season. Zach Lavy (Auxvasse, Mo.) entered the box and ripped a liner to right center for an RBI double, his sixth this year two-bagger of the year and 11th RBI in the last five games. The rally kept rolling with a single to left by Brian Sharp (Liberty, Mo.), which allowed Lavy to cross the plate, putting Mizzou up 3-2.A pair of singles led off the ninth for Youngstown, tying up the game at three. Acuri knocked a sacrifice fly into right field to score the go-ahead run for the Penguins, who held onto the lead through the end of the game.
