Summary

Biography

2018

  • Was one of the SEC’s top two-way players during his junior season, developing into one of the most consistent pitchers and dominant hitters on Mizzou’s roster.
  • Hit a career-best .321 with eight homers, nine doubles, 39 RBI and 42 runs.
  • His 39 RBI and 42 runs were both the second-best marks on the team.
  • He also led the team with a career-best 33 walks.
  • On the mound, he posted a 3.38 ERA in 10 appearances, including four starts, while striking out 29 in 32.0 innings.
  • He went 4-0 on the mound and gave Mizzou incredible midweek pitching depth.
  • Named SEC Co-Player of the Week (2/26) following an incredible week two of the 2018 season.
  • Began his week by pitching 5.0 shutout innings in a 9-0 road win at No. 24 Miami Wednesday.
  • In his first career start in 29 appearances, he reset career-highs for innings pitched and strikeouts (eight) and allowed just four hits against the nationally-ranked Hurricanes and did not walk a batter.
  • He entered the game as the DH following his time on the mound and tallied a hit and a run in the win, a prelude to a huge weekend with the bat.
  • In Mizzou's weekend series vs. Northeastern, Sharp exploded for one of the most impressive single-game performances in school history in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.
  • In Mizzou's 20-1 win, Sharp went 5-for-5 with a pair of homers, a triple, a walk and a school-record nine RBI, tying the mark set by Jacob Priday on April 11, 2008, vs. Texas.
  • His 13 total bases were the most since Priday had 15 in that same game vs. Texas.
  • A double shy of the cycle, Sharp came to bat in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and instead of hitting the double he needed for the cycle, he launched a grand slam to right field to complete the historic performance.
  • He also had a three-run, go-ahead homer in the second inning of that game.
  • Finished second on the team with 17 multi-hit games and third with eight multi-RBI games.
  • He reached base in the final 17 games of the 2018 season and also reached base in 18 straight games earlier in the year.
  • Over his final 17 games, he hit 27-for-66 (.409) with 18 runs, 15 RBI and five of his eight homers.
  • Had seven straight games with multiple hits from April 24 through May 4 and had multiple hits in 10 of 12 games from April 24 through May 15 during his hot streak to close the season.
  • Hit a seventh-inning go-ahead grand slam in the series finale at Kentucky (4/29) even though Mizzou couldn't’t hold the lead.
  • Five of his 10 pitching appearances were shutout performances.
  • Earned a win over Arkansas State (3/21) after tossing 3.0 shutout innings with three strikeouts and just one hit.
  • Also defeated Chicago State (4/17), tossing 4.0 innings, and Missouri State (4/24) when he allowed just two runs on four hits over 5.0 innings, matching his longest outing of the year.
  • Drafted in the 26th round of the MLB First Year Player Draft  by the New York Mets and began his professional career.

2017

  • Hit .246 with 11 doubles, a triple and four homers while driving in 19 runs during his sophomore season.
  • Made nine appearances on the mound, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings, allowing just six hits with 11 strikeouts against five walks
  • Reached base in 19 consecutive games at one point, the second-longest streak by a Tiger in 2017.
  • Hit his first homer of the year against UIC (3/5)
  • Hit a huge, game-tying solo homer to lead off the ninth inning in the series finale against Appalachian State (3/12) … That homer evened the score at 2-2 before Mizzou rallied for a walk-off win to keep its 20-game winning streak intact
  • Had a season-high three hits on three separate occasions, first vs. Chicago State (3/15) and again against Arkansas (3/24) with a double and an RBI … Also had three hits against SEMO (3/28)
  • Did not allow a run in his first six pitching appearances of the season, spanning 9.0 innings and allowed just one hit in that span while striking out eight against only one walk
  • Earned a pair of wins on the mound, coming in his first two appearances of the year against UIC (3/5) and Chicago State (3/15)
  • His only save of the season came against Little Rock (3/21) when he pitched 1.2 perfect innings, needing just 16 pitches to get the five-out save

2016

  • SEC Freshman of the Week on March 7 after picking up his second career win and second career save on the mound while hitting .333 with three runs and two RBI in the Mizzou lineup in a 4-1 week
  • Hit .252 with 15 RBI and 21 runs at the plate and compiled a 4.84 ERA with five saves in 22.1 innings on the mound in his first year as a Tiger
  • Walked 24 times in 127 at-bats, the second-best percentage of any Mizzou everyday position player in 2016
  • His .371 OBP was fourth on the team, trailing only Zach Lavy, Jake Ring and Ryan Howard.
  • Went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a career-high four runs scored while also walking against Hofstra (2/26) … His three hits in that game matched a career-high
  • Hit his first career double against Hofstra in the final game of that series (2/28)
  • Earned his first start of the season at Florida International (2/24) and went 1-for-3 with a run and a big two-run single that extended a Mizzou lead … Also tallied the save in that game, pitching the final 1.2 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with a strikeout
  • In his 35 games as a position starter, he drew a walk in 20 of them and hit safely in 24
  • Went 2-for-2 with a double at Kentucky (5/20)
  • Second career save came against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3/2) when he tossed a perfect inning of work, striking out one, to preserve a 2-0 win
  • Did not allow a run until his sixth appearance of the season and allowed just three earned runs over his first 14 career appearances (16.0 innings of work) with 16 strikeouts in that span
  • Earned a pair of saves in SEC play, the first at Arkansas (4/3) and vs. Auburn (4/9) to preserve a 4-3 win to clinch the series
