Freshman hurler allows only 1 ER in CG victory

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Mizzou Softball took game two of its opening day festivities Friday evening with a 9-2 victory over Elon. Freshman RHP Danielle Baumgartner (Mexico, Mo.) was fantastic in her NCAA debut, allowing only one earned run in a complete game win.

After giving up two runs in the top of the first, sophomore 3B Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) quickly tied the game up for Mizzou with a 2 RBI single. Two innings later, freshman 1B Rylee Pierce (Visalia, Calif.) continued her hot start with a 2-out RBI single.

Similar to its first game of the day, Mizzou used a six-run inning to build a comfortable advantage over the opposition. The Tigers batted around in the fourth inning, highlighted by a 2-run single from junior C Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.) and 2-run double by senior OF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.)

Baumgartner's strong effort on the mound sealed the Tigers' victory as she threw six consecutive scoreless innings after allowing two runs in the first frame.

KEY MOMENT

Similar to the Tigers' first game of the day, a six-run inning propelled the team to another victory. 10 Mizzou batters made its way to the plate in the fourth inning with four hits contributing to the scoring outburst.
