COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers are closing the indoor regular season on Friday (Feb. 19) at home, hosting the eighth annual Collegiate Challenge in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. Thirteen teams will travel to Columbia for the competition, which is the last for the black and gold before the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, from Friday, Feb. 26, through Saturday, Feb. 27.
DMR HEADS TO NOTRE DAME
While the rest of the team remains in Columbia, four women will travel to South Bend, Indiana, for Saturday's Alex Wilson Invitational to compete in the distance medley relay (DMR). Senior Liz Reida, junior Sydney Wells, and sophomores Valeska Halamicek and Karissa Schweizer will look to bump into the top-12 of the national rankings, which serves as the cut-off for relay qualification into the NCAA Championships next month. The team currently sits at 20th in the NCAA with their performance from the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet (11:26.92).
FACES TO WATCH
Although many of the familiar faces on the team will be resting this weekend in preparation for next week's SEC Championship meet, there are a few names to look out for as the team approaches championship season.
- Junior LaQuisha Jackson will return to the blocks in the 60m dash after timing through with a season's best 7.44 last weekend at the Tyson Invitational. Jackson currently holds the record in the event (7.31), and is also the school record holder in the 200m dash (23.58) and 4x400m relay (3:37.67).
- Freshman Maya Cody will also be featured in the 60m dash. Both her and Jackson were members of the school record-breaking 4x400m relay team from last weekend's Tyson Invitational (3:37.67).
- Freshman Kahmari Montgomery will be among four Tiger men featured in the 60m dash. He already claimed his first Mizzou school record in the 400m dash (47.33), and now sits at No. 2 on the 200m dash record board with his 21.15 PR from Tyson.
- Senior Alyssa Felton will return to her home track for the first time after she tied the 60m hurdles school record during last month's Missouri Invitational (8.53). She currently sits with Teri LeBlanc and Janay Woolridge at the top of the record board for the event.
- In the triple jump, sophomore John Warren will look to gain ground in the national rankings. The 2015 USATF Junior Triple Jump Champion is currently ranked 29th in the country with his season's best 15.73m (51-7.25).
- Finally, freshman Matthew Ludwig will be featured in the men's pole vault, returning to the Hearnes runway for the first time since his near-school record-breaking performance during the Missouri Invitational. Ludwig currently holds the No. 2 mark in school history (5.30m // 17-4.50), and ranks 20th in the NCAA.
