COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (5-3) welcomes the first ranked visitor of the season to Mizzou Arena in No. 20 Arizona (7-2), with tipoff scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2. The Tigers have won two games in a row, including their most recent 26-point victory over Miami (Ohio), 81-55, on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

  • Head coach Kim Anderson's squad was led by sophomore forward Kevin Puryear's 19 points in the win over the RedHawks. Senior forward Russell Woods recorded the first double-double of his career with a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Arizona comes to Columbia for the first time in its program history. The Tigers are 126-78 all-time against Pac-12 members.
  • Freshman guard Frankie Hughes leads the Tigers in scoring at 14.0 points per game, while Puryear leads on the boards with 6.4 rebounds per game.
  • The Tigers are averaging 72.4 points per game through eight contests, up from the season average of 68.6 points per game from 2015-16.
  • Mizzou is once again cultivating a talented, but young roster during the 2016-17 season. According to KenPom.com, the Tigers rank 346th out of 351 NCAA Division I teams in terms of experience.

GAME DAY PROMOTIONS

  • Mizzou students are encouraged to take a study break and pack Mizzou Arena for Saturday's game. The first 500 students will receive free breakfast sandwiches from Chick-fil-A.

STUFFING THE STAT SHEET

  • Sophomore guard Terrence Phillips (Orange County, Calif.) scored just seven points in the win vs. Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6, but looking across his complete line of statistics tells the story of the impact he made in the victory. With seven points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals, Phillips became the first Mizzou player to record at least five points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in a game since the 2011-12 season. Former Tiger Phil Pressey posted 16 points, five rebounds, seven assists and six steals in an 89-88 win at No. 3 Baylor (Jan. 21, 2012).
  • Mizzou's Phillips is just the sixth different Tiger to record a "5-5-5-5" game since the 1989-90 season. In that time span, former Mizzou All-American and 13-year NBA veteran Anthony Peeler accomplished the feat three times, twice during the 1989-90 season and again in the 1990-91 campaign. Pressey had a first "5-5-5-5" outing prior to his big Baylor game vs. Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament First Round to close the 2010-11 season.

BIG ON THE BOARDS

  • In back-to-back games, Mizzou has reset its season-high for rebounds, first with 44 vs. Western Kentucky (Dec. 3) and then with 50 boards against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6.
  • Being aggressive on the offensive glass has been a focus for the Tigers early in the 2016-17 season, with Mizzou averaging 12 offensive rebounds per game thus far. Through its first eight games last season, Mizzou averaged 8.1 offensive boards per game.
  • Overall, the Tigers have posted 42.4 rebounds per game, allowing 38.4 per game. Last season through the first eight Mizzou contests, the Tigers were outrebounded, on average, 35.5-34.5.

DEFENDING DEEP RANGE

  • Mizzou is holding its opponents to 61.5 points per game through eight games, a strong improvement from the 70.9 points allowed through the same number of contests last season.
  • Standing out for head coach Kim Anderson's group has been its defensive effort on the perimeter. The Tigers are holding its foes to 23.7 percent three-point field goal shooting (42-of-177), a mark that ranks first nationally, according to KenPom.com.
  • The Tigers' defense would be aided by the Black & Gold offense returning to scoring as fluidly as it did through the first five games of the season (77.4 points per game). After averaging 55.5 points between the North Carolina Central (Nov. 28) and Western Kentucky (Dec. 3) games, Mizzou's offense broke out for 81 points against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR BIG RUSS

  • Senior forward Russell Woods (Chicago, Ill.) recorded the first double-double of his Mizzou career with his effort vs. Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6, setting career-highs in scoring with 15 points and rebounds with 10.
  • Woods surpassed his previous scoring high of 12, set in the season-opening win over Alabama A&M (Nov. 13) and has now grabbed 10 rebounds in four career games, the most recent prior occurrence in the win over Tulane (Nov. 20).

PURYEAR STAYING CONSISTENT

  • Sophomore forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored 19 points (7-of-13 FG, 0-of-1 3PT, 5-of-8 FT) against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6, to go along with eight rebounds.
  • Puryear has scored 10 points or more in 27-of-39 career games for the Black & Gold.
  • In 39 career games, Puryear has scored at least 10 points and grabbed at least five rebounds in 20 contests.

CAREER NIGHT FOR CULLEN

  • Sophomore guard Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.) scored 14 points (4-of-7 3PT, 2-of-2 FT) against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6, setting a career-best in points.
  • The effort was VanLeer's third game this season scoring 10 or more points out of eight games, matching his total from his entire 31-game freshman campaign.
  • VanLeer drained four three-pointers in the game, matching a career-high for shots made beyond the three-point arc. VanLeer also connected on four-three pointers against N.C. State on Dec. 19, 2015.
