COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball (8-3) continues its homestand at Mizzou Arena with a Saturday morning contest against UT-Martin. Tip off is set for 11 a.m. CT on SEC Network Plus and KTGR.
PROMOS
- Make sure to wear your ugly holiday sweater to be eligible to be picked for a halftime contest!
OF NOTE
- This is the fourth meeting in the last five seasons between UT-Martin and Mizzou.
- Each of the last three meetings (in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15) between the Tigers and the Skyhawks were decided by single digits. UT-Martin went on to capture an Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship or an Ohio Valley Conference tournament title in all three seasons.
- In those three matchups, Mizzou made a combined 42 three-pointers, shooting a combined 43.3 percent from beyond the arc.
- This is the second Ohio Valley Conference opponent Mizzou has faced this season. The Tigers beat SIUE, 72-60. Mizzou is 48-4 all-time against Ohio Valley Conference programs.
- Mizzou is looking for its 31st consecutive home nonconference victory on Friday.
- Despite playing just three true forwards this season, Mizzou has outrebounded opponents in eight of its 11 games. The Tigers are 7-1 in those contests.
SENIORS STEP UP
- Senior Sierra Michaelis received her first career SEC weekly honor when she captured SEC Co-Player of the Week recognition after a pair of outstanding performances last week.
- Michaelis piloted Mizzou to two victories last week averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 steals and 5.0 rebounds per game. She poured in a season-high 24 points to lead all scorers in a 72-60 win over SIU-Edwardsville. Michaelis made a career-high six three-pointers in the process, connecting from distance on Mizzou's first three possessions to begin the game.
- Michaelis then recorded a career-high nine steals against Wichita State. It's the most steals in a game by any SEC player this season. She's one of five players in all of Division I to record that many in a game thus far. Michaelis is the first Mizzou player to do so since Tracy Franklin in 2001.
- Redshirt senior Lianna Doty added a season-high 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting in the win over Wichita State.
- Doty is one of two players in the SEC ranking in the top 15 in the league in assists and top six in the league in steals.
STRONG THIRD QUARTERS
- During its last three wins, Mizzou outscored its opponents 68-43 in the third quarter.
- Mizzou used a 26-16 outburst in the third quarter in its last win over Wichita State to top the Shockers. It was Mizzou's first victory this season when trailing at halftime.
- Mizzou is 7-0 this season when leading at the half.
SCOUTING UT-MARTIN
- UT-Martin has won two of its last four games after losing five of its first six contests to begin the season. The Skyhawks are coming off a 68-63 victory over Arkansas State on Wednesday.
- UT-Martin has faced one other SEC foe already this season, taking Vanderbilt to the brink in November. The Commodores squeaked out a 79-77 victory in a back-and-forth affair.
- A duo of sophomores in Myah Taylor and Emanye Robertson is leading the Skyhawks offensively. Taylor is averaging a team-best 11.3 points per game while Robertson is averaging 10.8 points per contest. Robertson has made a team-high 25 free throws this season.
- UT-Martin is allowing opponents to shoot 46.7 percent from the floor through 10 games, which is the fifth-worst among all Division I teams.
LAST TIME OUT
- Mizzou held on to beat Wichita State, 64-57, behind a strong second half and clutch outings from its seniors. Mizzou improved to 8-3 on the season as the Tigers secured their 30th consecutive nonconference victory at home.
- The Tigers were led by Doty and Michaelis, who both turned in excellent second-half performances to help Mizzou secure the victory.
- Mizzou closed the game on a 14-7 run, using clutch free throws from Doty, Michaelis, and Lindsey Cunningham, and buckets from Cierra Porter to ice the game.
