Junior Amina Ismail went 3-0 to improve to 12-6 on the season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis earned 11 overall victories during day one of action at the Big Green Invitational in Hanover, N.H. The Tigers were led by junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio), who finished the night 3-0 to push her overall record to a team best 12-6. Mizzou won six of eight doubles matches and five of eight singles matches during the opening day of the tournament.
Mizzou started the event with strong performances in doubles action. Two different pairings went undefeated on day one. Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and Ismail defeated the ITA preseason No. 29 pairing of Nicole Robinson and Andjela Djokovic from Purdue in their first match and finished off the afternoon by beating the top doubles pairing from Dartmouth in their second match. Senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) also posted an unblemished mark for Mizzou, earning a pair of wins over the duos from Purdue and Dartmouth.
In singles play, senior Kadi Fauble (Quincy, Ill.) clinched her first singles win of the season in convincing fashion, defeating Yale's Sunday Swett in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished the night with two wins and now has six singles victories on the year. Middlebrooks boasts a 6-2 record in singles play this fall, tied with Lashway for the best singles record on the team.
Mizzou looks to build on its hot start during day two of the Big Green Invitational. The Tigers begin with doubles play against Penn State at 9 a.m. For up-to-date information, follow @MizzouTennis on twitter.
