COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou (3-1) is set for the Junkanoo Jam, a Thanksgiving tournament held at the Gateway Christian Academy in Bimini Islands, Bahamas. The four-team bracket features two guaranteed games. After facing Creighton on Friday afternoon, Mizzou will take on either Dayton or Georgia Tech on Saturday.
- This is first meeting neutral court meeting between Creighton and Mizzou. Creighton owns the all-time series, but the Tigers have won two of the last three matchups.
- The Junkanoo Jam in Bimini Islands, Bahamas, marks just the second time in program history that Mizzou has competed in games outside of a U.S. state or territory. Mizzou participated in the Cancun Challenge in 2013.
- Coach Pingeton has eight career wins over Creighton, a former Missouri Valley Conference foe during her time at Illinois State.
- Heading in to the Junkanoo Jam, Mizzou ranks in the top five in the NCAA in two key statistical categories. The Tigers are shooting 85.1 percent from the free throw line as a team, which ranks third in the NCAA. Mizzou is also holding opponents t0 28.7-percent shooting, which is good for fifth in the nation.
- Since 2011, Mizzou is 26-3 in its first five games of the season.
WELL TRAVELED
- With trips to Nebraska, Washington and now Bimini Islands, Bahamas, under their belts, the Tigers will have traveled 6,640 total miles in the month of November alone after the Junkanoo Jam.
- Mizzou will have in played three different time zones just six games into the season.
LAST TIME OUT: BREAKOUT NIGHT FOR THE FRESHMEN
- Against Indiana State, Mizzou's trio of freshmen Jordan Chavis, Amber Smith and Jordan Roundtree combined for 27 points.
- Chavis dropped a team-high 17 points and made five three-pointers. She is the only freshman in the SEC to make five threes in a game this season.
- Smith posted a career-high eight points and Roundtree scored her first career bucket on an offensive rebound and putback. Roundtree corralled a career-high four rebounds in nine effective minutes.
- Mizzou scored 26 points off of 18 ISU turnovers.
- Sophomore forward Cierra Porter tallied 16 points and four rebounds, sophomore guard Sophie Cunningham scored 15 points, and freshman forward Hannah Schuchts added 10 points. Cunningham and Schuchts each pulled down a game-high-tying six rebounds, and Cunningham led all players with four assists.
- The Tigers dominated from the outset, scoring the first 14 points of the game.
CONTINUED SUCCESS AT THE FOUL LINE
- Mizzou made 27-of-28 free throws on Tuesday. On record, it matches the third-best FT percentage in school history (min. 10 attempts) – the only two performances that were better are a 21-for-21 mark against Oklahoma in 2004 (a 77-65 win) and a 10-for-10 performance against North Florida in 2011 (a 67-46 win). Two of the top three single game FT performances have now come in the Robin Pingeton era. .
- Mizzou leads the SEC and ranks third in the NCAA in free throw percentage (.851) . Mizzou is the only team in the SEC shooting above 80 percent from the foul line.
- Sophie Cunningham has a knack for earning trips to the free throw line. A season ago, she finished second in program history among all freshmen with 113 made free throws. So far this season, Cunningham has shot 32 of the team's 74 free throws and is shooting 78.1-percent from the foul line.
- Cunningham has made the most of her opportunities from the foul line in her career, making 81.6 percent of her attempts, which currently ranks third in Mizzou history.
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS
- Creighton is coming off its first victory of the season, an 80-77 win over Drake. The Bluejays saw four players reach double figures, led by 18 points from Myan Mellman. Marissa Janning and Brianna Rollerson added double-doubles.
- Mellman is averaging a team-best 18 points per game. Rollerson is averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and a team-high 10.0 rebounds per contest.
- Creighton opened the season with back-to-back losses to South Dakota State and Wichita State on the road.
- The Bluejays return all five starters from a season ago. Creighton finished 17-18 overall and placed seventh in the Big East in 2015-16.
- Head coach Jim Flanery is in his 15th season steering the Bluejays. He's won 270 games in his career at Creighton.
MIZZOU AGAINST THE REST OF THE JUNKANOO JAM FIELD
- Mizzou will face either Dayton or Georgia Tech on Saturday in its second game of the Junkanoo Jam.
- Mizzou won its only meeting with Dayton in program history in 1992.
- Mizzou is 0-1 all-time against Georgia Tech with the lone loss coming in the 2010 Paradise Jam.
