COLUMBIA, MO. – Senior captain Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) battled at this year's qualifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. She entered the event ranked No. 36 nationally after reaching the NCAA tournament and defeating six ranked opponents last season.
Santos faced SEC foe Ingrid Gamarra Martins of South Carolina in her first match and lost in a heartbreaker, 3-6, 5-7. Santos fought hard throughout the match and snagged a 3-2 lead in the second set before ultimately falling in two sets.
In her second match of the tournament, Santos lost to Wichita State's Gabriela Porubin in two sets, 5-7, 3-6. With the pair of losses, the senior was eliminated from the tournament. The defeat keeps Santos' career win total at 99 heading into the rest of the 2016-17 regular season.
Santos will continue her search for her 100th career win when Mizzou travels as a team to Minneapolis, Minn., for the ITA Central Regional tournament, which takes place October 13-17.
