COLUMBIA, MO. – Mizzou Tennis senior captain Bea Machado Santos is set to begin play in the qualifying draw of the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. The event, which takes places at the Riviera Tennis Club, hosts the nation's top collegiate players from across the nation.
Santos, who entered the 2016 fall season ranked No. 36 in the nation, clinched a spot in the qualifying draw after a stellar junior campaign. She finished No. 54 in last season's final ITA singles poll after reaching the NCAA Tournament and downing six ranked opponents.
Santos' opening match at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships is set for 12:45 p.m. CT on Tuesday. She will square off against Southeastern Conference foe Ingrid Gamarra Martins of South Carolina. Santos needs three consecutive victories to advance to Thursday's main draw. If she triumphs in her first match, she faces the winner of the match between Duke's Meible Chi and Penn's Kana Daniel.
Santos is the fifth Tiger since 2012 to secure a spot in the tournament and first since recent graduate Kelli Hine represented Mizzou at the 2015 event. Santos enters this year's ITA All-American Championships one win shy of 100 career victories.
