COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Mizzou Men's Basketball (8-11, 1-5) led by four points at the 17:25 mark in the second half at No. 10 Texas A&M (17-2, 7-0), but could not keep pace with the Aggies down the stretch, dropping a 66-53 result at Reed Arena on Saturday. Junior guard Wes Clark (Detroit, Mich.) led the Tigers with his 12 points, also matching his career-high with a team-high nine rebounds.
Freshman forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) also reached double digits with 11 points. The freshman continued his strong shooting from the free throw line, shooting 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. Senior forward Ryan Rosburg (Chesterfield, Mo.) chipped in 10 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field. Rosburg is now shooting 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) from the field in Southeastern Conference play.Â
The first half featured back-and-forth play from both teams. After sophomore guard Namon Wright (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored the first bucket of the game, the Aggies gained the lead for the next nine minutes until freshman guard K.J. Walton (Indianapolis, Ind.) made a slicing cut to the basket for a lay-in to give the Tigers a 16-14 advantage with 10:11 remaining in the half. Mizzou led on two other occasions in the half, but entered the locker room trailing by four, 29-25.
Mizzou started the second half on an 8-0 run, Puryear scored the first four points, followed by the next four from Rosburg to give Mizzou a 33-29 lead. The Aggies eventually went on a 12-2 run to open a 10-point lead, 50-40. Head coach Kim Anderson's group cut the lead to single digits twice down the stretch before yielding the final score of 66-53.
The Tigers return to action Wednesday, Jan. 27, when Mizzou visits Lexington, Ky., to face No. 23 Kentucky. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
