@MizzouVB Claims 3-1 Win Over Idaho State

Mizzou Volleyball opened its weekend at the Idaho State Invitational with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21) victory over host Idaho State. The Tigers dropped their first set, but rebounded in a big way with three consecutive set wins.

POCATELLO, Idaho – Mizzou Volleyball opened its weekend at the Idaho State Invitational with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21) victory over host Idaho State. The Tigers dropped their first set, but rebounded in a big way with three consecutive set wins.

Redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.), redshirt junior Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and junior Sydney Deeken (California, Mo.) each tallied double-digit kills to lead Mizzou's offense. Crow paced the Tigers in single-match kills for the fifth consecutive time, following a 17 kills output against the Bengals. The Tiger newcomer also added two assists, two aces and four blocks to key 22.0 total points.

Larson was held to only two kills after two sets, but exploded for 11 kills in the match's final two sets played. Overall, Larson's 13 kills on .385 established a new single-season high. In contrast, Deeken was unstoppable in the early-going on Friday evening inside Reed Gym. The California, Mo., native had 11 kills on .348 hitting through two sets to key the Tigers' overall comeback. Deeken's 12 total kills marked her second consecutive match with double-digit strikes.

Junior Courtney Eckenrode (The Woodlands, Texas) paced Mizzou in assists (28) for the fourth consecutive match. Senior Alexa Ethridge (Lee's Summit, Mo.) led the Tiger back row with 15 digs on the night.

UP NEXT

Mizzou concludes its run at the 2016 Idaho State Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Tigers are scheduled to play two matches, beginning with a 1 p.m. (CT) match against No. 10 BYU. Mizzou will play back-to-back matches to end its tournament with a 4:30 p.m. (CT) match versus Boise State.
