Game Notes

  • Mizzou Baseball hits the road for a three-game series at No. 3 Mississippi State this weekend, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. with the game airing live on SEC Network. Friday's game will feature a 7 p.m. first pitch on ESPNU and the series finale will be Saturday at 4 p.m. on SEC Network+.
  • This weekend will be a battle between two former peers in Mizzou head coach Tim Jamieson and MSU head coach John Cohen. Cohen was an assistant coach at Mizzou from 1992-1997. A graduate assistant coach from 1992-94, Cohen coached under legendary Tiger coach Gene McArtor before becoming Jamieson's top assistant from 1995-97. He helped the team to a 39-19 overall record and an NCAA Regional appearance in 1996. Mizzou tallied a 185-147 record with Cohen as an assistant.
  • This weekend's matchup is the first since a 2014 series in Columbia in which the Bulldogs took all three meetings in three close contests. MSU won, 3-2, in 11 innings in the Friday night game and won 6-2 in the Saturday contest. The Sunday game was a high-scoring affair with MSU claiming a 9-7 win.
  • Of course, the series between Mizzou and Mississippi State is highlighted by an epic, 17-inning game in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in 2013. MSU won that game, 2-1, on a walk-off single by senior catcher Mitch Slaughter. Dillon Everett and Shane Segovia each had a pair of hits in that game but Mizzou was limited to just 11 hits in the 17 innings.
  • The only other meeting between the two schools came in 2003, a 10-5 Bulldog win in NCAA Regional action in the Strakville Regional. MSU has won all five meetings in history.
  • The pitching matchups this weekend are as follows:
    • Thursday: RHP Reggie McClain (4-2, 3.72 ERA) vs. RHP Dakota Hudson (6-3, 3.00 ERA)
    • Friday: RHP Tanner Houck (4-4, 3.12 ERA) vs. RHP Austin Sexton (4-2, 3.69 ERA)
    • Saturday: TBA vs. TBA
  • Mizzou's starting rotation did not walk a batter in 21.0 innings last weekend against Tennessee, striking out 20.
