Columbia, Mo.- Junior guard Maddie Stock's offensive outburst propeled Mizzou past the visiting Auburn Tigers, 59-49 on Sunday afternoon in Mizzou Arena. Mizzou is now 13-11 overall and 3-8 in SEC play.
For the second game in a row, Mizzou went into the locker room at the half led in scoring with 11 points from Maddie Stock, she went on to amass career-high numbers in points (23) and rebounds (6).
After the Mizzou offense struggled to find points in the early parts of the first half, a three-point basket from Juanita Robinson sparked three straight three-point field goals from Robinson, Morgan Eye and Stock. After Auburn continued to answer with three-point field goals of their own, a bucket by Davionna Holmes tied things up at 20. It was not until seven seconds left in the half when Maddie Stock sank yet another trey to cut Auburn's lead to three, 26-23.
Auburn came out swinging in the second half stretching their lead to eight inteh first minute, but a 7-0 run by Mizzou pulled the game within one, 30-31. Six straight points from sophomore guard Jordan Frericks allowed Mizzou to take its first lead of the contest, 36-34 and Mizzou began to run away with the game. The Tiger teams continued to go back and forth in scoring until Auburn would take the lead for the last time in the ball game at the 11:07 mark, 42-41. After that, the Mizzou offense it up, going on a 16-3 run over 8:28. Mizzou found production from eight players, including 32 points from players off of the bench.
The Mizzou Tigers outrebounded Auburn, 43-40, with all Mizzou players grabbing at least one rebound. Mizzou again got huge production from Frericks, who tallied her fifth consecutive double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Eye also contributed another two three-point field goals, giving Mizzou nine more points.
The Tigers go on the road to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for an 8 p.m. contest against the Crimson Tide and return back to Mizzou Arena for another Sunday (Feb. 15) contest against the Ole Miss Rebels at 2 p.m.
