Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Sophomore Sierra Michaelis had another career night for the Tigers. She was unstoppable from distance, knocking down 5-of-5 triples on her way to a career-high 28 points in Missouri's 67-64 loss at Alabama. Michaelis also finished with a career-best 13 rebounds, marking her second double-double of the season. Michaelis' 28 points on the night also mark the most for an individual in league play this season. The Tigers fall to 13-12 overall and 3-9 in league play.
Mizzou got off to a strong start, taking an early eight point lead in the game. Michaelis knocked down eight of Mizzou's first 11 points in the half and went into the locker room at the break leading all scorers with 13 points. Despite holding Alabama to just 38-percent shooting, the Tide took the lead with just over 11 minutes left in the half and held on tight. The Tigers were able to tie things up twice, but Alabama took a four point lead into the halftime break.
Eye and Michaelis combined for 10 points out of the first half break to come back and take the lead over the Crimson Tide. A huge Michaelis triple gave the Tigers the lead and marked her fourth of the night which tied for the most three's she has hit in a game throughout her career. Alabama proved to be relentless, however, and the Tide took the lead in the game once again.
The half continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with both the Tigers and the Tide trading the lead. It came down to the wire as the Tigers held just a two point lead over Alabama with one minute left in the game. The Tide knocked down a lucky three-ball right in the last few seconds of the game, followed by a foul shot to secure the win for the night.
The Tigers held the Tide to less than 30-percent shooting from distance, while outrebounding Alabama as well.
The Tigers head home to host Ole Miss on Sunday in a 2 p.m. game that's set to air on SEC Network +. Sunday's game will mark the annual Play 4Kay contest, and the first 1,000 fans to arrive will receive a free pink t-shirt courtesy of Century Link.
