Full 2016 Mizzou Softball Schedule
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball begins its quest for another deep NCAA postseason run on Feb. 19 with the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., as head coach Ehren Earleywine announced the Tigers' tentative 2016 schedule on Tuesday.
Mizzou will host 16 games at University Field this upcoming season, highlighted by Southeastern Conference matchups against Tennessee (April 1-3) and Georgia (April 8-10). The Volunteers and Bulldogs are two of 10 opponents on this year's schedule who ended last season ranked in the Top-25 USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll.
The Tigers kick off their season in Kissimmee, Fla., for the Citrus Classic. Mizzou will play six games in three days (Feb. 19-21) against competition from across the country. Four days later, Mizzou travels west to Cathedral City, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Classic (Feb. 25-27). The Tigers will be joined by North Carolina State and Oregon to round out a talented group of participants.
Mizzou concludes its early season schedule with another west coast trip in Fullerton, Calif., for the Judi Garman Tournament (March 3-5). The Tigers will compete against Arizona State, Baylor, California and Michigan to form one of the country's premier tournaments in 2016.
The following weekend (March 11-13), Mizzou travels to Oxford, Miss., for its SEC opening series of the season against Ole Miss. Mizzou welcomes Western Illinois to Columbia, Mo., for a doubleheader on March 16 for its home opener.
The Tigers hit the road for their next 11 games (March 19-30), including six consecutive nonconference matchups vs. New Mexico State, UTEP and Northern Iowa. Mizzou returns to conference play on March 26 for a three-game road trip at Alabama. The Tigers conclude their long stretch away from home with a doubleheader on March 30 at in-state rival Saint Louis.
Mizzou returns home for a season-long eight-game homestand from April 1-13. The Tigers first welcome two talented SEC foes to University Field with Tennessee and Georgia making its way to Mid-Missouri. Mizzou wraps up its home stretch with a doubleheader on April 13 vs. Wichita State.
The Tigers hit the road again two days later (April 15-19) for contests at Kentucky and Iowa. Mizzou returns to University Field for a quick three-game series vs. Texas A&M (April 23-25). The Tigers' final eight games of the regular season include a doubleheader at SEMO (April 27), three-game series at Mississippi State (April 29 - May 1) and three-game home stand against South Carolina (May 6-8).
2016 postseason play begins with the SEC Tournament (May 11-14) in Starkville, Miss. NCAA Regionals (May 20-22) and NCAA Super Regionals (May 27-29) will take place the following two weekends. For the 26th time in Division I Softball Championship history, the 2016 NCAA Women's College World Series (June 2-8) will transpire in Oklahoma City, Okla.
