Tigers (21-4, 9-3 SEC) return home next Friday night
BATON ROUGE, La. – Mizzou Volleyball ended its two-match road losing skid on Sunday evening with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) victory over LSU. Mizzou took advantage of an inefficient LSU attack, as the host Tigers suffered 27 attack errors and nine service errors.
"It's always big to go on the road and pick up a conference victory and we did just that today in Baton Rouge," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "We came out strong on offense and then used some solid play on defense to seal today's win. We're nearing the last stretch of our season and we'll work hard every day to end it well."
Mizzou performed well in the opening set, producing 13 kills on .387 hitting with three total blocks. Redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and junior Emily Thater (Springfield, Mo.) each tallied three kills to lead the Tigers' offense. Sophomore Courtney Eckenrode (The Woodlands, Texas) was busy at the net, posting eight assists in the first set.
In second set action, Mizzou struggled on offense and led to a 21-19 late deficit. Mizzou came together and fired back in a big way, ending the set on a 6-0 run to claim a 2-0 overall lead. Junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) recorded two of her three second set kills in the team's closing run. Freshman Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) hit well for the Tigers on offense, finishing with three kills on .500 hitting.
Mizzou wrapped up today's victory with four more blocks in the third set. The Tigers finished with 10 blocks, marking their 15th double-digit block outing this season and 10th double-digit block match in SEC play.
