Mizzou Posts Seven Top-Eight Finishes at Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships

SAN ANTONIO – The Mizzou swimming team posted seven top-eight finishes and five new 2016 Olympic Trials cuts at the 2015 Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships, Aug. 6-10, at the Northside Swim Center in San Antonio, Texas.

SAN ANTONIO – The Mizzou swimming team posted seven top-eight finishes and five new 2016 Olympic Trials cuts at the 2015 Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships, Aug. 6-10, at the Northside Swim Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Twenty-one Tigers represented Mizzou at the five-day meet, highlighted by top-eight placements from current Tigers Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C.), Carter Griffin (Parker, Colo.) and Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) and former Tiger Sam Tierney.

Chadwick earned a pair of top-five finishes, taking fourth in the 50 free (22.03) and fifth in the 100 free (49.26). Griffin earned bronze in the 200 back with a third-place finish in a finals time of 1:58.38), while Stevens tied for fifth in the 100 back (1:00.44). Tierney placed seventh in the 200 breast (2:12.71) and eighth in the 100 breast (1:01.17). Mizzou's women's 4x100 medley relay team of Stevens, Katharine Ross, Danielle Barbiea and Rachel Hayden also took fifth in the event after a time of 4:07.97.

Additionally, Daniel Graviss (Houston, Texas) placed 11th in the 400 IM.

The Tigers added five new U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying times at the event. Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.) added her third and fourth cuts in the 100 fly (1:01.11) and 200 IM (2:17.23), as she already had qualifying times in the 200 fly and 200 IM. Grant Kelton (Collierville, Tenn.) qualified for Trials in both the 100 and 200 back, after swims of 56.72 in the 100 and 2:03.77 in the 200, while Erin Metzger-Seymour (Westminster, Colo.) earned her cut in the 100 fly (1:01.02). After Nationals, Mizzou now boasts 21 current and former Tigers with 34 U.S. Olympic Trials cuts.
