COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers had an exciting start to the two-day Tom Botts Invitational at Audrey J. Walton Stadium on Friday (May 1), highlighted by senior Kearsten Peoples who lengthened her lead on the Mizzou Record Board in the hammer throw with a PR effort of 66.17m (217-1). By the evening's end, the Tigers collected 16 personal records (PR's) and six wins out of four events featured, including the sixth-fastest 3k steeple time in Mizzou history from freshman Madison Waymire.
Peoples entered the weekend already well-ranked in the NCAA for the hammer throw and shot put, sitting in the top ten of the current rankings for both events. She now moves into the top five for the hammer, as her 66.17m (217-1) is good for the fifth-best throw in the NCAA thus far this season.
Fellow-senior Camille Hackamack joined her in the ring, ending up with a third-place finish with her top throw of 51.88m (170-2).
Peoples will return on Saturday in the shot put and discus, where she will be joined by teammate and fellow-senior, Jill Rushin. Peoples owns the Mizzou School Records in both events, while Rushin sits just off her shoulders with the No. 2 marks in program history. Rushin currently holds the No. 2 mark in the NCAA with her season best 17.62m (57-9.75), which also ties her PR from 2014.
The men's hammer also saw a couple of PR's, as sophomore Ahren Bohanan and junior Nick Sublett bested their previous top marks to take third and fifth in the competition, respectively. Leading the way for the black and gold, though, was senior Brian Duncan, who landed just under his PR with a best toss of 62.51m (205-1), good for second in the field.
The evening's program also featured three events on the track, starting with the women's 1500m where junior Liz Reida cruised to a win and new PR of 4:24.54. Reida, who already sits just off an All-Time Top Ten mark in the 800m run, is now 0.01-seconds away from landing herself in the history books for the 1500m run.
Finishing close behind Reida was freshman Karissa Schweizer, who also knocked her PR down a few notches with a 4:26.34 crossing.
Mizzou also claimed the win in the men's 1500m run, as junior Sam Dickerson paced through in 3:49.14 for first followed by junior Chandler Dye in second with a final time of 3:56.15.
The 3000m steeplechase was next, with freshman Madison Waymire highlighting with her 28-second PR, crossing in first with the sixth-fastest time in Mizzou history -- 10:49.26.
Fellow-freshman Marc Dubrick took the steeplechase win on the men's side, timing through with a PR finish in 9:20.43.
The men's and women's 5000m run closed the evening's events, with the Tigers taking the line under the lights at Walton Stadium to claim the sixth and final event win from sophomore Jordan Cook. Cook, along with fellow-sophomore Dan Roe, led the majority of the race, both crossing with new PR's to take first (14:20.50) and second (14:32.81), respectively.
SENIOR NIGHT
This weekend also marks the senior day celebration as the Tigers prepare to send off 17 members of a truly historical class. Included among the numerous accomplishments garnered by these Tigers over the past four years are 16 All-American honors, one NCAA Title, a Collegiate All-Time Top Ten mark, six Mizzou school records, and 25 All-Time Top Ten marks.
Seven members of that class got things rolling on Friday night, and accounted for three of the evening's PR's and one event win.
