COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 24 Mizzou gymnastics team tallied its highest floor score in three years as the Tigers fell to the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, 197.350-195.275, at the Pink Out Friday night at Mizzou Arena. Missouri closed the competition with a 49.275 on floor, a season high and the best score for the squad on the event since a 49.400 on March 16, 2012.
Senior Laura Kappler placed second in the all-around with a career best total of 39.200.
Overall, the team score of 195.275 was Mizzou's seventh tally over 195.000 this season after combining to reach the mark just four times in 2013 and 2014.
The Tigers concluded the meet on a high note with a big 49.275 on floor, where five of six gymnasts tallied a 9.825 or better. Sophomore Alyson Heimsath tied for second on the event with a personal best 9.900, bettering her old high of 9.850 in early March. Freshman Kennedi Harris knocked out a 9.875 to mark her seventh straight meet above a 9.800 on the event. Sophomore Angie Kern set a season high with a 9.850, while senior Briana Conkle and freshman Becca Schugel each recorded 9.825s.
Opening the meet on vault, four Tigers notched 9.800s for a 48.950 team tally. Harris' 9.800 was a new career best, while Kern, Schugel and senior Katelyn Trevino also scored 9.800s. Kappler added a 9.750 on the event.
In the second rotation, Mizzou went 48.625 on bars, again led by four Missouri gymnasts with 9.800s or better. Sophomore Shauna Miller paced the Tigers with a 9.875, her second best score on the apparatus this season. Kappler erupted for a career best 9.850 as well, while senior Becca Johnson had a 9.825 and Conkle went for a 9.800. The team scored a 48.625 on the event.
On beam, Kappler placed third with a 9.850, her seventh score over a 9.800 on the event in 2015. Freshman Kelli Martin tallied a 9.825, her fourth score of 9.800 or higher on beam in four tries this season. Overall, the Tigers went 48.425 on beam.
Missouri closes the regular season against North Carolina State at the Hearnes Center on Friday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m.
