Mizzou will look for its first SEC Tournament victory on Thursday against the Lady Bulldogs. The next round will continue on Friday, March 6, pitting the Tigers against the Tennessee Lady Vols. A full SEC Tournament bracket can be found on page 15.
Last Time vs. Georgia
The Tigers traveled to Athens, Ga. earlier this season, falling 69-46 to the Bulldogs. Sophomore Jordan Frericks finished in double figures for the 12th time this season, and junior Morgan Stock finished with a season-high nine points on the night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lady Bulldogs. The first half got off to a quick start, with both teams scoring in the opening minute. Despite scoring first, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead of the Tigers right off the bat and kept the lead throughout the half. Mizzou stayed close throughout the half and were competitive on the glass, outrebounding Georgia in the half.
Scouting Georgia
Prior to closing out the regular season with a win over Florida, Georgia was riding an eight-game losing streak. The Bulldogs faced three ranked opponents in that span including South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. The injury bug has also hit Georgia, as leading scorer Shacobia Barbee has been sidelined with a right distal fibula fracture. Tiaria Griffin has stepped up for the Bulldogs, averaging 11.1 points per game, while Krista Donald is a much-needed competitor on the glass (6.6 rbs per game).
Quick Hits
• The Tigers are now riding a four-game win streak, currently the longest for any team in the SEC. Mizzou has not earned four consecutive league wins since 2005-06. The Tigers' four wins to finish conference play mark the best regular season finish for a Tiger team since the 1984-85 season when Mizzou won 10 conference games leading up to the Big Eight Tournament.
•Mizzou's win over the 12th-ranked Aggies marks the first time the Tigers have defeated a ranked opponent on the road since Feb. 17, 2007 when Mizzou topped No. 19 Nebraska.
•WIth Mizzou's win over Arkansas, the Tigers improve to 7-9 in SEC play. Mizzou's seven league wins stand as the best record for a team in league play since the 2005-06 season when the Tigers finished Big 12 play 10-6.
• Going into the SEC Tournament as the No. 7 seed, Mizzou has earned its highest seeding since the 2006 Big 12 Tournament when the Tigers entered as the No. 4 seed.
• It's no secret that sophomore Jordan Frericks is Mizzou's weapon on the glass. She is averaging 9.8 rebounds per game and stands as the first Tiger to average almost 10 rebounds per game since Kesha Bonds averaged 10.1 rpg in the 1997-98 season.
• #RoadWarrior: In road games this year, Jordan Frericks averages an impressive 18.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She accounts for 30-percent of the team's points and 27-percent of the team's rebounds in road games.
• In 28 games this season the Tigers have allowed just six teams to shoot better than 40-percent in a game. In fact, the Tigers have limited opponents to less than 37-percent shooting in 18 games, winning 14 of those 18 contests.
• The 41 points Mizzou allowed Arkansas are the fewest that the Tigers have ever allowed in an SEC regular season game since joining the league. The Tigers also held Florida to just 47 points. Prior to that the the fewest points Mizzou allowed an opponent stood at 53 by Vanderbilt in the 2012-13 SEC Tournament.
• Mizzou has been getting it done with defense so far this season. In fact, in 19 of the Tigers' games this season, they have held their opponents to 60 or fewer points. Of course, Mizzou has won 14 of those 19 contests. Mizzou held its opponents to 60 or fewer points just 11 times last season. In fact, Mizzou has won 23 of its last 29 games when holding opponents to fewer than 60 points (dating back to the start of last season).
• A big reason why Mizzou's defense has been so stingy is the fact that they are limiting opponents to 34.7-percent shooting this season, first in the SEC and the 10th in the nation.
