ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Mizzou wrestling crowned five All-Americans Friday at Scottrade Center, tying the program record for most All-Americans in a single season. This year's Tiger Style squad matches the 2009 and 2013 teams for the most individual NCAA awards.
After redshirt senior Alan Waters (125), redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt (149) and sophomore J'den Cox (197) punched their All-American tickets in the earlier Friday session, redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes (141), and redshirt freshman Willie Miklus (184) completed the individual awards in the evening session.
After reaching the semifinal matchup for the third straight time, Houdashelt finally broke through with his win today and competes in the 149 pound championship match Saturday evening. The O'Fallon, Mo. native is set to battle No. 3 David Habat (Edinboro).
In tomorrow's wrestlebacks, Mayes and Miklus each shoot for seventh place finishes in their respective weight classes. Cox and Waters each have a chance to finish as high as third at 125 pounds and 197 pounds, respectively.
After two complete days, Mizzou sits at fifth place in the team standings. Ohio State, Iowa, Cornell and Edinboro all rank above the Tigers, as the teams continue the race for the 2015 National Championship crown.
2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships wraps up Saturday, March 21 at Scottrade Center. Session #5 is set for 10 a.m. (CT), while Session #6 begins promptly at 7 p.m. (CT).
