COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou tennis looks to end their current losing skid this weekend with a pair of ranked road Southeastern Conference matchups. On Friday, March 20, the Tigers face No. 12 Vanderbilt while on Sunday, March 20 Mizzou squares off against No. 20 Kentucky. First serves for Friday and Sunday are set for 4 p.m. (CT) and 9 a.m. (CT), respectively.
The Tigers have faced one of the toughest schedules in the country, as both their non-conference and conference opponents have routinely been inside Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) top-75 team rankings.
In fact, this weekend's tandem of ranked opponents are the eighth and ninth top-75 foes already this season. Mizzou has faced No. 43 Wichita State, No. 56 Houston, No. 50 Arkansas, No. 59 Mississippi State, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 36 South Carolina and No. 3 Florida up to this point.
Sophomore Cassidy Spearman, sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos, and junior Kelli Hine look to lead Mizzou's singles play this weekend. The trio pace the Tigers' singles wins list with Spearman leading the way with nine victories.
A pair of Mizzou doubles tandems have shined as of late, led by the duo of freshman Brianna Lashway and senior Alex Clark. After an impressive 8-3 fall record together, the Tiger tandem played for the first time in spring last weekend and earned an outstanding win against the No. 45 ranked doubles team.
Only six spring matches remain for Mizzou following this weekend with four of those taking place in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers are set to host Tennessee on Friday, March 27 and No. 4 Georgia on Sunday, March 29.
Mizzou's final home matches of the season take place on Friday, April 3 against Texas A&M and Sunday, April 5 against LSU. For start times and the complete remaining Spring 2015 schedule, please visit MUTigers.com.
