Goodyear, Ariz.--After posting a 3-under-par 285 in the first round, Mizzou Golf is in second at its spring opener, The Loyola Golf Invite sponsored by the Neville Kovacs Group, in Goodyear, Ariz.
Running from Feb. 22-24, the event formerly known as the Snowman Getaway, is taking place on the par 72, 7,015-yard course at Palm Valley Golf Club. Mizzou previously competed at the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2013, winning in 2011 and 2013. Utah Valley (-8) leads the field of 17, with Depaul (+2) rounding out the top-three finishers.
Freshman Luigi Botta held his spot atop the leaderboard throughout the entire round, carding a career-best 5-under-par 67. Botta will begin the second round tied for first with J.T. Timmons of Utah Valley.
All-American Ryan Zech and sophomore Euan Walker each posted rounds of 1-under-par 71 to finish the day tied for ninth.
Hayden Buckley and Wilson Sundvold finished the first round tied for 49th with scores of 4-over-par 76.
Competing as an individual, Jacob Fair concluded play tied for 78th at 7-over-par 79.
