COLUMBIA, Mo. The Mizzou gymnastics team hits the road to open Southeastern Conference competition this weekend as the Tigers head to Athens, Ga., to face No. 7 Georgia on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT). The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network +.
TIGER TIDBITS
- The Mizzou gymnastics team hits the road for the first time in 2015 with a Southeastern Conference meet at No. 7 Georgia at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) on Friday, Jan. 16 at Stegeman Coliseum.
- Missouri opened the season with a pair of wins of Kent State and Towson in a home tri-meet on Jan. 9. The Tigers posted a 193.900, ahead of Towson's 193.325 and Kent State's 192.400.
- The Tigers had scores of 48.875 on vault and bars, 47.600 on beam and 48.550 on floor.
- Head Coach Shannon Welker is in his second season at the helm of the Tiger program. Welker led Missouri to a 6-7 regular season mark a year ago and an RQS of 194.770.
- 2015 marks the 35th season of the Mizzou gymnastics program, with the Tigers boasting an all-time regular season record of 373-301-1.
- Freshman Shauna Miller was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 13 after claiming the all-around, vault, bars and beam titles in the season opener. Miller's award marked the first time a Mizzou gymnast earned weekly honors from the SEC since the Tigers joined the league in 2012-13.
- Miller also tied Missouri's freshman vault record with a 9.950 against Kent State and Towson. The score included a 10.0 from one judge.
- The Mizzou gymnastics team will have five televised meets in 2014, including a live home meet against Auburn on Feb. 20. Four meets will be televised on the SEC Network, while another will be aired on ESPN2.
- The 2015 slate features six home meets and five road meets, with matchups against all seven other Southeastern Conference foes and non-conference clashes with Kent State, Lindenwood, North Carolina State, SEMO and Towson.
- The March 6 home meet against Alabama will make history for the program, as the Tigers will compete at Mizzou Arena for the first time in the facility's 10-year history.Document Links: Meet Notes
