COLUMBIA, Mo. - A four-run fourth was enough for Georgia (18-12-1, 5-5-1) as the Bulldogs claimed a 7-2 win over Mizzou (13-16, 3-8) Saturday (April 5) afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou starter John Miles (Columbia, Mo.) was chased in the sixth, charged with three earned runs and six hits, striking out four in 5.1 innings. Dillon Everett (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied a RBI single in the eighth and the Tigers added one more in the ninth, but it was too little, too late.
Eric Anderson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was moved to second in the lineup for today's game, but he extended his trend of reaching base in the first inning to 13 of the last 20 games. Logan Pearson (Bentonville, Ark.) walked in the bottom of the eighth to extend his on-base streak to a team-high 11 games. Alec Rash (Adel, Iowa) was strong in relief, striking out three in his two innings of work to end the game. A season-high 2,328 fans attended the game at the home of the Tigers.
Miles pitched out of trouble in the first, getting out of a two-on, no-out jam in a scoreless frame. Mizzou countered in the second inning with two on and one out after back-to-back singles from Dylan Kelly (Roswell, Ga.) and Josh Lester (Columbus, Ga.), but both were left stranded as the game went scoreless to the third, where the Tigers again failed to score with a two-on, one-out situation. The visitors struck in the third off Miles, taking advantage of a two-out RBI single to left from Stephen Wrenn and a throwing error from Lester to take a 4-0 lead after four innings.
Mizzou still couldn't figure out Georgia starter Robert Tyler through the fifth inning, as the freshman righty hung another zero on the board to hold the four-run edge. The Bulldogs added on to their lead in the top of the sixth, chasing Miles in the frame. Ryan Phillips (Columbia, Mo.), Andrew Hohn (Little Rock, Ark.) and Andrew Schwaab (St. Charles, Mo.) also pitched in the three-run sixth inning as UGA claimed a 7-0 lead.
Tiger freshman Brett Peel (St. Charles, Mo.) took his first swings since injuring his hand in the second game of the year, bouncing out to short in the seventh inning. He also singled in the ninth. Rash entered to pitch in the eighth, throwing two scoreless frames to close out the game, including striking out the side in the eighth.
