Sophomore J'den Cox (11-0), redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt (12-0), redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes (13-0), redshirt freshman Willie Miklus (13-0), and redshirt senior Alan Waters (10-0) will all look to continue their perfect starts to their 2014-15 campaigns.
Houdashelt Earns MAC Wrestler of the Week
Redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt took home the Dec. 8-14 MAC Wrestler of the Week, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the Mid-American Conference (MAC) office. The O'Fallon, Mo. native had an outstanding weekend, as he recorded two victories over Top-10 opponents.
Houdashelt kicked off his standout week with a 6-3 decision over No. 8 Tywan Claxton (Ohio) on Dec. 13 and followed with a fall over No. 3 Hunter Stieber (Ohio State) on Dec. 14. The pin against Stieber played a crucial role into Mizzou's comeback 20-19 dual win over No. 7 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
The award marks the fourth MAC Wrestler of the Week honor in Houdashelt's banner career. Wednesday's honor also marked the third time this season that a Tiger Style grappler has been awarded with the MAC recognition.
With his two victories this past weekend, Houdashelt improved to 12-0 this season and is currently ranked No. 4 in the country at 149 pounds according to Intermat. His 109 career wins ranks him 11th all-time in Mizzou wrestling history.
