• The Kim Anderson Era will officially begin at Mizzou Arena on Friday, Nov. 14, when Mizzou faces off with UMKC at 8 p.m. on SEC Network+. The matchup serves as part of the EA Sports Maui Invitational Opening Round. A former Big Eight Player of the Year (1977), Anderson starred for the Black & Gold from 1974-77 and was a longtime assistant of legendary head coach Norm Stewart (1982-85, 91-99).
• The Tigers saw early success on the exhibition schedule, winning games against William Jewell, 72-31, on Oct. 29, and UMSL, 77-54 on Nov. 8.
• Mizzou shot well from the field in both exhibition wins, hitting on 41.4 percent (24-of-58) vs. William Jewell and 43.1 percent (28-of-65) vs. UMSL.
WELCOME TO THE KIM ANDERSON ERA
• Missouri Basketball begins a new era this season as Kim Anderson returns home to take the reins of the Tiger program. Anderson was a success on and off the court during his previous stints at Mizzou, beginning as a player for Norm Stewart from 1974-77, helping the Tigers to their first Big Eight crown under the Hall of Famer Stewart in 1976 and earning Big Eight Player of the Year in 1977, averaging 18.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game as a senior.
• Anderson spent 11 seasons on staff at Mizzou over two stints (1982-85 and 1991-99) and served six years as an assistant coach at Baylor (1985-91) under Gene Iba. Anderson was first a graduate assistant for Stewart from 1982-85 and helped the program to the 1983 Big Eight title, the program's fourth straight, before taking his first full-time assistant coaching role with the Bears two years later.
• Anderson spent 12 seasons in total at Central Missouri and won nearly 75 percent of his games over a decade-plus worth of work. Anderson went 274-95 (.743) during that span and finished his career ranked among the Top 10 in career winning percentage all-time at the NCAA Division II level. The two-time Mizzou graduate (1979, `81) earned 2014 NABC National Coach of the Year honors after leading the Mules to the 2014 NCAA Division II title. In addition to his consistent winning approach, Anderson helped the Mules collect league and national hardware, winning or sharing six Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) regular season conference titles.
NEWS FACES FROM MANY PLACES
• Stepping in alongside Mizzou's returning lettermen from a season ago (Wes Clark, Keanau Post, Ryan Rosburg, Johnathan Williams, III) will be eight newcomers. Upperclassmen Deuce Bello and Keith Shamburger bring experience at the guard positions for the Tigers. A junior, Bello sat out the 2013-14 season after transferring from Baylor. A senior, Shamburger was immediately eligible to play at Mizzou after graduating from Hawaii over the summer. Five freshmen will have plenty of opportunities to earn minutes on the court, with D'Angelo Allen, Jakeenan Gant, Montaque Gill-Caesar, Tramaine Isabell and Namon Wright all putting on the Black & Gold for their first campaigns. Transfer walk-on Jimmy Barton (Houston Baptist) will sit out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer regulations. Squad member Hayden Barnard redshirted last season and provides depth in the post with his 6-10 frame.
• Mizzou will be one of the most inexperienced teams in all of high major basketball for the 2014-15 season, as just 22 percent of its scoring and 13 percent of its three-point output returns from a 23-12 season a year ago. Gone is the Southeastern Conference's leading scorer, Jabari Brown, NBA draft pick Jordan Clarkson, and versatile wing Earnest Ross, who all combined to average better than 51 points per game last year.
• The Tiger freshmen came from around the country for the opportunity to play at Mizzou and fill in for the team's lost production, showing the reach and talent behind Coach Anderson and his staff's recruiting efforts. Allen hails from Dallas, Texas, where he played for Kimball High School. Gant was Mr. Basketball in the state of Georgia, playing for Effingham County in Springfield, Ga. Gill-Caesar came to Mizzou from Ontario, Canada, by way of Huntington Prep in West Virginia. Isabell and Wright both came inland from the West Coast, with the two calling home to Seattle, Wash., and Los Angeles, Calif., respectively.
