Carly Kan posted her SEC-leading 15th double-double on Firday.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball swept Arkansas, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-22), on Friday night (Oct. 31) at the Hearnes Center behind sophomore All-American Carly Kan's (Honolulu, Hawaii) SEC-leading 15th double-double. The Tigers improve to 14-11 and snap a two-match losing streak and they even their SEC record at 5-5. Mizzou had a balanced attack with seven players posting kills in the win.
"I thought we did a nice job of limiting the errors that have been hurting us lately and I think we saw the benefits of cutting out those unforced mistakes," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "Arkansas is a good, physical team and I thought we served tough and played pretty good defense. We kept attacking too and that kept them out of system all night. We have a tough match Sunday against a ranked Texas A&M team, so we need to enjoy this one tonight and then get into the gym tomorrow and prepare for Sunday."
Kan posted 10 kills and a match-high 11 digs in the win while picking up a pair of aces. She paced the Tiger attack which also got a nice night from senior Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) as she tallied eight kills on .412 hitting. Sophomore Emily Thater (Springfield, Mo.) had a nice night as well with five kills on .333 hitting with four blocks and an ace. Whitney Little (Keller, Texas), Kasey Reuter (Sioux City, Iowa) and Regan Peltier (Nixa, Mo.) each added five kills in the win.
The setting duo of Loxley Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Ali Kreklow (Columbia, Mo.) combined for 35 assists with 19 and 16, respectively. Senior libero Sarah Meister (San Diego, Calif.) pulled in nine digs and Thater led the team with her four blocks. Mizzou limited Arkansas to .124 hitting, including a first set in which the Tigers held Arkansas to just three kills, the fewest Mizzou has allowed all season in a single set.
The Tigers also did a nice job of slowing Arkansas' Meredith Hays, who came into the match leading the SEC in kills and points per set. She hit just .091 and was hitting -.062 at intermission with just four kills and five errors. Hays led Arkansas with 11 kills and Chanell Clark-Bibbs also had 11 kills on .529 hitting.
Mizzou will be back in action on Sunday against No. 23 Texas A&M at 3 p.m. at the Hearnes Center. The match will air live on the SEC Network. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MizzouVB.
