COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball continued its fall schedule with two wins on Friday, playing inside Devine Pavilion to avoid inclement weather in the Mid-Missouri area. The Tigers defeated Central Methodist, 6-3, powered by 5.0 innings of shutout, no-hit pitching from freshman P Paige Lowary. Head coach Ehren Earleywine's squad then downed Butler Community College, 9-5, to close the day.
Mizzou was led at the plate by three two-hit performances in the win over Central Methodist, with freshman IF/OF Morgan Walters (Buford, Ga.) providing run production with a two-RBI double in her 2-for-3 game. Junior 2B Ashtin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo.) batted 2-for-3, including a double, with a run scored, while sophomore 1B/P Jordan Zolman (Arbyrd, Mo.) hit 2-for-4 with a double.
Lowary continued her strong fall with her latest start, allowing just one walk and one hit batter to reach base with seven strikeouts.
In Game Two action vs. Butler CC, Mizzou was led at the plate by freshman 3B Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.), who batted 3-for-3. The Tigers saw plenty of extra-base hits, with junior OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.), junior C Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.), senior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.), senior IF Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.), junior 2B/OF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) and sophomore OF Anna Reed (Lonedell, Mo.) accounting for six doubles.
The Tigers' lone trip to #BombCity was provided by senior C Alyssa Cousins (Carrollton, Texas), who hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning as part of a six-run frame for Mizzou.
Sophomore P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) started vs. Butler and threw 3.0 innings with three strikeouts and one hit allowed. She was relieved by sophomore P Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.), who logged 4.0 innings in the circle for the win.
Mizzou finishes its fall schedule with two final games on Friday, Oct. 10, first with Jefferson College (3 p.m.) and closing with Mineral Area College (5 p.m.) at University Field.
