Game Notes: Mizzou |
Mizzou's series with LSU dates back to 1981. LSU won the first two meetings in 1981 and 1985, but since joining the SEC, Mizzou has never lost to LSU in three meetings. Mizzou won at LSU, 3-1, in 2012 and then swept LSU at home later that season. Mizzou won 3-1 in Baton Rouge last year in the only meeting between the two teams. Head coach Wayne Kreklow has never lost to LSU with a perfect 3-0 record.
Sophomore All-American Carly Kan has been on a tear as of late. After struggling in matches at Ole Miss and Georgia, Kan has been unstoppable over her last two matches, averaging 4.29 kills per set on .329 hitting while pulling in 18 digs in the two matches. She is coming off of her SEC leading 13th double-double Monday night at UMKC, tallying 19 kills and 12 digs. Kan heating up is bad news for LSU as she went off in her only match against the Bayou Bengals, posting 24 kills on .400 hitting with 17 digs in a 3-1 win last season.
Senior All-American Whitney Little set her 10th school record on Monday at UMKC. She tallied a pair of solo blocks in the loss, moving her career total to 118, passing former Tiger All-American Nicole Wilson who had 117 from 2003-06. She reset the school's block assists record last Friday against Auburn as well.
Both Carly Kan and Loxley Keala posted double-doubles in Monday's loss at UMKC. The sophomore duo from Hawaii ranks 1-2 in the SEC in double-doubles. Kan leads the SEC with 13, three ahead of Keala's 10. Keala is one ahead of Auburn's Alexa Filley who has nine. Kan had not posted a double-double since Sept. 26 against Mississippi State before doing so Monday and Keala's last double-double before Monday was at Miami on Sept. 20, a span of five matches.
Recapping UMKC
Mizzou volleyball lost to in-state rival UMKC, 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 25-23, 18-25) on Monday evening (Oct. 13) at Swinney Recreation Center. Senior middle Whitney Little tallied the 118th solo block of her career in set four, giving her the school record in that category, her 10th school record. Mizzou was led on the night by sophomore All-American Carly Kan, who finished with 19 kills on .280 hitting with 12 digs. The match is Kan's SEC-leading 13th double-double. Little pitched in six kills as did Sydney Deeken and Regan Peltier. Sophomore Loxley Keala tallied her 10th double-double of the season with a match-high 29 assists and 14 digs, the latter of which was just one off of a career-high. Senior libero Sarah Meister pulled in a team-best 17 digs in the loss as well. Nine different Tigers tallied kills.
