Freshman Sydney Deeken (California, Mo.) took advantage of her second career start, posting a career-high three total blocks to go along with seven kills, seven digs and two aces. Sophomore Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) also contributed nine kills and seven digs. She has 431 combined in 2014, which leads the nation.
In a tight opening set, the score was knotted at 18-18 before Mizzou buckled down to edge in front. Little followed a block with a booming kill to put the Tigers up two. Tennessee only managed to salvage one more point in the set as Mizzou closed it on a 7-1 run to win 25-19. Little, Kan and sophomore Emily Thater(Springfield, Mo.) paced the Tigers with three kills apiece in the first frame.
Mizzou again used a big run to pull away in the second set. With the score deadlocked at 4-4, the Tigers manufactured a 5-0 run, polished off by a monster kill from Kan. Mizzou led by as many as 10 and finished off the 25-15 set win with an Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) kill.
The Tigers wasted no time building a comfortable cushion in the third frame as they jumped out to quick 9-1 lead. Meister served eight times in a row and guided in three aces during the run. Tennessee sliced the deficit to eight, trailing 17-9, but kills from Wilson and Deeken shut the door. An emphatic kill from Kan closed out the 25-16 set and match win.
Susan and Wayne Kreklow coached their 1,000th career match together Sunday and claimed their 764th victory during that span. The Tigers will hit the road to face Ole Miss at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The match will be televised on the SEC Network.
