EUGENE, Ore. - The Tigers had their first All-American finisher on Friday as junior Katrine Haarklau earned her second top eight finish in the NCAA Championships' pole vault competition. Haarklau closed the day in sixth with a final bar of 4.20m (13-9.25), making the podium with a season's best.
Haarklau was fifth at the 2013 NCAA Championships, where she flew to a Missouri School Record of 4.35m (14-3.25). She had another good battle on Friday, making each height on her first or second attempt before nudging the bar at 4.25m (13-11.25).
Events will be back in full force on Saturday for the Tigers starting at 12:30 p.m. (PT) with junior Jonathan Ilori in the men's triple jump. Fellow-junior Macauley Garton will be up next with the men's javelin throw, followed by the pair of women in the high jump - senior Shinelle Proctor and junior Morgan Whitson. Closing out the weekend will be the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked shot putters in the NCAA, juniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin, as they look to repeat their All-American performances in the event from the indoor season.
