STARKVILLE, Miss. - Freshman pitcher Tori Finucane stuck out a season-best 12 batters and No. 16 Mizzou Softball recorded 14 hits, including six extra-base knocks, on the way to a 6-0 shutout of Mississippi State on Friday at MSU Softball Stadium. Head coach Ehren Earleywine's squad (26-9, 5-5 SEC) leveled its Southeastern Conference record with the win, in which redshirt sophomore OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) led the way with a 3-for-4 batting performance.

The Tigers' extra-base hits against the Bulldogs (29-11, 2-8 SEC) had a long ball among them, as freshman RF Natalie Fleming (Silex, Mo.) launched the third home run of her first collegiate season. Senior OF Mackenzie Sykes (Blue Springs, Mo.) batted 2-for-3 with a triple and double.

Sykes helped Mizzou score in the opening frame of the game, lifting a deep sacrifice fly to left center that allowed Gadbois to score from third base for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added a second run in the second inning, using the first career triple from freshman C Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.). Mack smacked a liner down the left field line and a groundout from redshirt sophomore 2B Ashtin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo.) got Mack home to make it 2-0.

Mizzou added three runs in the fourth with the big bats shown by Sykes and Fleming. Sykes led off the inning with the first triple of her senior season and third of her career. Junior IF Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.) poked a single out in front of the Bulldogs' right fielder to drive Sykes in from third base. Following that hit was where Fleming came in, hitting a two-run rocket to straight-away center field, staking Mizzou to a 5-0 lead.

The Tigers tacked on a sixth run in the fifth inning with another sacrifice fly, this time from Mack on a ball down the right field line. The deep out allowed Sykes to score from third after starting Mizzou off with her double down the left field line.

Along with Gadbois and Sykes, junior 3B/C Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.) and Genovese posted multi-hit days, going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4, respectively.

Finucane (11-5) issued zero walks in the complete game shutout (7.0 IP), allowing just two hits and one hit-by-pitch. Mizzou put the loss on MSU's Alexis Silkwood (8-3), who allowed all 14 hits and six earned runs, while recording three strikeouts.

The Mizzou-MSU series continues on Saturday, April 5, with a 3 p.m. start, before the series finale on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
