COLLEGE STATION, Texas- No. 15 Mizzou Softball will go for a series win at No. 13 Texas A&M on Sunday, March 9, after surrendering the series' middle contest to the Aggies in five innings, 11-2, at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Tigers shutout Texas A&M, 7-0. to start the series on Friday, March 7, behind the standout performance of freshman P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.), who struck out seven Aggies and allowed just three hits.
Head coach Ehren Earleywine's team (13-4, 1-1 SEC) was led at the plate by freshman C Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.), who smacked her first collegiate home run to center field to get Mizzou on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. Freshman P/OF/1B Casey Stangel (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) singled through the left side ahead of Mack's blast that set the score at 4-2 to Texas A&M (18-5, 1-1 SEC).
The Aggies had just one hit in their opening frame of the game, but scored four runs due to a fielding error, four walks and a hit batter. Texas A&M added one run in the bottom of the second with a home run, followed by six runs on four hits in the bottom of the third.
Stangel pitched 4.0 innings in the setback (6-2), striking out two batters with six walks and two hit by pitches.
The Tigers equaled the Aggies in hits with six of their own against Texas A&M's Katie Marks, who improved to 9-0 with the result.
Mizzou's first home contests of the 2014 season will be against SEC foe Kentucky from March 14-16 at University Field.
