COLUMBIA, Mo.- With a series win already in the books, No. 16 Mizzou Softball could not complete the sweep Sunday at University Field, falling to No. 13 Georgia, 6-2. Mizzou (25-9, 4-5 SEC) was led by redshirt sophomore SS Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) at the plate, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. It marked the 11th multi-hit game of the season for Fagan.

Georgia (30-5, 6-3) jumped on the board quickly, as a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly brought home the game's first run in the initial frame. The Bulldogs followed with a three-run home run in the second inning to extend their lead to 4-0.

Freshman P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) settled down after the long ball, working 4.0 innings overall with four strikeouts. Finucane used a strikeout and a double play to halt another Georgia scoring chance in the third and retired the side in order in the fourth to limit the damage and keep the Tigers within striking distance.

Mizzou closed the gap with a rally in the bottom of the fifth frame. Redshirt sophomore C/OF Carlie Rose (Nixa, Mo.) worked a four-pitch walk and redshirt sophomore 2B Ashtin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo.) looped a single to left field to put runners on first and second for the top of the order. Stephens went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Two at-bats later, Fagan came through with a two-RBI base knock up the middle, slicing the Tigers' deficit to 4-2.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Bulldogs tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh behind three singles. Stephens reached again for Mizzou in the final frame, but the Tigers' lack of timely hitting proved to be too much as Georgia salvaged a game in the series finale.

Despite the loss, Mizzou clinched its first series win in SEC play and now has five wins over ranked opponents after the weekend. The Tigers will get a few days of practice in before heading to Starkville, Miss., to take on Mississippi State. The first game of the series will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 4.
