COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 7 Texas A&M Aggies recorded a 4-0 win over the Mizzou Tennis team Saturday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The Tigers fell to 5-14 overall and 0-7 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Aggies improved to 13-3 and 6-1.
The Aggies claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 action. First, the No. 60 team of Ines Deheza and Saska Gavrilovska defeated sophomore Madison Rhyner and freshman Cassidy Spearman, 8-2, at No. 2 play. Texas A&M took the point after a tough 8-6 win for No. 23 Cristin Stancu and Stefania Hristov over seniors Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Rachel Stuhlmann.
The home squad went up 2-0 when Gavrilovska, ranked 56th nationally, in singles posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over sophomore Kelli Hine at No. 2 competition. Wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles sealed the 4-0 win for the Aggies. At No. 4, Hristov was victorious over Rhyner, 6-1, 6-1, while Rutuja Bhosale defeated Spearman, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
Gaytan-Leach battled at No. 1 singles, playing almost even with Stancu, ranked 14th in the nation. Stancu won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4), but Gaytan-Leach led 4-2 in the second set when play was suspended.
Missouri returns to the court on Sunday at 10 a.m. for a match against Prairie View A&M.
