COLUMBIA, Mo.- No. 18 Mizzou Softball earned two wins on Saturday of the Mizzou Tournament, defeating North Dakota State in five innings, 11-2, and Oklahoma State, 2-1, to improve to 21-7 overall and 3-0 in event at University Field. The Tigers were powered by senior OF Mackenzie Sykes (Blue Springs, Mo.) and sophomore 2B/OF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) at the plate. In the two victories, Sykes tallied four RBI, and Crane went for 3-for-5 and scored two runs.

Game One
Mizzou took down North Dakota State by run rule behind 16 total hits and a dominant pitching performance from freshman P/1B/OF Casey Stangel (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho). Stangel fanned three in the win and gave up just two runs over 5.0 innings of work.

After a scoreless first inning, redshirt sophomore OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) sparked the Tigers in the bottom of the second frame with an RBI single, extending her program-best hitting streak to 23 games. Redshirt sophomore SS Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) brought Gadbois home with a sac fly and Missouri grabbed a 2-0 lead. Fagan recorded two hits and an RBI on the afternoon.

An inning later, junior 3B/C Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.) smacked a solo home run, her fourth long ball of the season, to put the Tigers up 3-0. With Stangel continuing to shut the Bison down on the mound, Sykes poured it on in the fourth inning, lifting a grand slam over the left center field wall.

Junior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.) kept the rally going after the grand slam with an RBI single. Freshman 1B/P Jordan Zolman (Arbyrd, Mo.) got in on the action and notched her first collegiate hit with a pinch-hit single to left field that loaded the bases. NDSU walked in a run on the following batter and a two-RBI base knock from junior 3B Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Mizzou.

NDSU manufactured two runs in the top of the fifth frame, but it was not enough to avoid the run rule as Stangel limited the damaged. With her performance, Stangel improved to 10-4 in her freshman campaign.

Game Two
Mizzou's second game, a matchup with Oklahoma State, featured a pitcher's duel. Freshman P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) tied her career-high with nine strikeouts and allowed just one run in 7.0 innings in the circle. A sixth-inning sacrifice fly by Roth proved to be enough for the Tigers to pull out the close victory.

Oklahoma State got on the board in the top of the first with a squeeze bunt that pushed a run across. With a runner in scoring position, Finucane froze the next batter looking to halt the rally.

Following three scoreless frames, the Tigers knotted things up in the bottom of the third. Gadbois led off the inning with a double that kept her 24-game hitting streak alive for another day. After a bunt moved Gadbois to third, Crane's grounder to the right side scored a run and tied the game at 1-1.

Finucane sat down seven batters in a row to keep the game deadlocked until Mizzou broke things open in the bottom of the sixth inning. Crane worked a walk and swiped second for her 23rd career stolen base. She then advanced to third base on an error, allowing Roth to lift an RBI sacrifice fly to center field and hand the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Oklahoma State led off the final frame with two base runners, a single and fielder's choice play, but Finucane clamped down. The freshman struck out three batters in a row to hold off the Cowgirls and seal her ninth win.

The Tigers finish the Mizzou Tournament on Sunday, March 23, when they play their fourth and final game against UMKC at University Field. Game time for the contest is slated for 2:30 p.m.
