COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri men's basketball squad reached 20 wins for the sixth consecutive season as the Tigers used an unselfish approach and a dominating post presence to blow out Mississippi State, 85-66, on Saturday. Eight different players found the scoring column behind a season-high 19 assists as a team.
Junior guard Jabari Brown led the way with 21 points and five rebounds, but most of the Tigers' production came down low. Freshman forward Keanau Post provided a boost off the bench, notching a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds, helping the Tigers outscore Mississippi State 40-26 in the paint. In all, the Tiger big men - Post, Ryan Rosburg, Torren Jones and Johnathan Williams III - collectively shot 15-of-16 (93.8%) from the field.
Mizzou (20-9, 8-8) has now earned 150 victories over a six-year span, which is the best run in school history.
The Tigers pulled away midway through the second half. After a sweet feed from Brown led to a Rosburg dunk, Wes Clark willed in a contested floater to establish a seven-point lead. Three minutes later, Jordan Clarkson forced a turnover and raced down the court for a dunk of his own, capping a momentum-shifting 16-6 run. Clarkson tallied 14 points, seven assists and five boards. Missouri took a 45-32 advantage into the halftime break.
The Tigers were firing on all cylinders in the second frame, pairing relentless defense with hot shooting to build a comfortable lead. Mizzou caused 12 Bulldog turnovers and shot a season-best 62.3-percent from the field as a team. Following a steal and three-pointer from Clark, Jones intercepted a pass and threw down a thunderous one-handed dunk. Clarkson nailed a trey on the ensuing possession and the Tigers led 68-41 with 11:33 remaining in the game.
Four players scored in double-digits for Missouri, with Earnest Ross adding 11 points. Missouri got 29 points from the bench, its second-best output of the season.
Missouri snapped a two-game losing streak with the convincing victory. Head coach Frank Haith and company now turn to Wednesday, when the Tigers will square off with Texas A&M at 7 p.m. The final regular season home game will honor seniors Ross and Tony Criswell as they play for the last time at Mizzou Arena.
