KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mizzou women's tennis team continued action at the three-day Mizzou Invite with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles on Saturday, Sept. at The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Tigers took on Oklahoma State and Princeton in doubles action and Nebraska in singles.
The Tigers started the day with doubles play against Princeton. The duo of junior Alex Clark and sophomore Madison Rhyner claimed Mizzou's only victory with an 8-1 win at No. 4 action over Oklahoma State's Mariah Burke and Nebraska's Katerina Matysova. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Kelli Hine and freshman Cassidy Spearman played a hard-fought match but tell 8-7 (7-5) to Princeton's Dorothy Tang and Alanna Wolff.
Mizzou swept all four doubles matches over Nebraska in the late morning. The Tigers' top tandem of senior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Spearman posted an 8-5 win over Maggy Lehmicke and Matysova. At No. 2, Hine and junior Elisha Gabb defeated Brittany Brewster and Izabella Zgierska 8-5. Clark and Rhyner posted their second win of the day with an 8-6 victory over Mary Hanna and Maike Zeppernick, while senior Rachel Stuhlmann and freshman Tracy Dong notched an 8-4 win over Lisa Andersson and Hannah Sulz.
In singles competition against Oklahoma State, Missouri posted wins in five of its eight matches to close Saturday play. Hine defeated Kanyapat Narattana 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Stuhlmann recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Maria Alvarez at No. 3 action. The Tigers also got wins at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 singles during the match. Clark was victorious over Carla tur Mari 7-6, 5-7, 10-7 at No. 5, Spearman defeated Morgan McCray 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 and Dong won 6-2, 6-3 over Burke at No. 7
Mizzou concludes play at the Mizzou Invite on Sunday, Sept. 22. The squad takes on Oklahoma State in doubles at 9 a.m. and Nebraska in singles at 10:30 a.m.
