KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mizzou women's tennis team opened their fall season on Friday, Sept. 20 in the first day of the squad's Mizzou Invitational in Kansas City, Mo. The Tigers face off against Princeton, Nebraska and Oklahoma State in the three-day tournament.

Mizzou opened action in doubles Friday morning against Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls' top team of Kanyapat Naarattana and Carla Tur Mari, ranked 47nd nationally, defeated Mizzou's No. 32 team of junior Elisha Gabb and senior Cierra Gaytan-Leach, 8-5. Oklahoma State was also victorious at No. 2 action, where Karyn Guttormsen and Maria Alvarez claimed an 8-4 win over sophomore Kelli Hine and freshman Cassidy Spearman. At No. 3 doubles, senior Rachel Stuhlmann and freshman Tracy Dong ousted Megan and Morgan McCray, 8-5. Junior Alex Clark and sophomore Madison Rhyner played Nebraska's Izabella Zgierska and Maike Zeppernick and defeated the Husker pair, 8-2.

In the second doubles action of the day, the Tigers got wins from No. 1 and No. 3 play. Missouri's top team of Gabb and Gaytan-Leach defeated Lisa Andersson, 8-6, and Hine and Spearman won 8-5 over Brittany Brewster and Maggy Lehmicke.

The Tigers opened singles action against Princeton Friday afternoon and had wins from Hine at No. 4 action and Clark at No. 6. Hine recorded a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win over Dorothy Tang and Clark posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lauren Wagner.

Mizzou returns to the court Saturday for day two action. The team faces Princeton in doubles at 9 a.m., Nebraska in doubles at 10:30 a.m. and Oklahoma State in singles at 1:30 p.m.
