Bullinger Leads Mizzou to a Fourth-Place Finish after Day One

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Mizzou men's track and field team is fourth place at the Big 12 Indoor Championships after day one thanks to help from junior Jacob Bullinger (Jackson, Mo.), who won the men's weight toss with a throw of 19.26m. In all, the men are fourth with 22 points while the women stand 10th after day one with seven points but have a variety of opportunities to pick up points tomorrow in day two of competition.

Aside from Bullinger's personal-best effort in the weight throw, teammate Brian Duncan (Iberia, Mo.) also had a nice performance, taking seventh with a throw of 17.96m. Staying in the field events, junior Malcolm Pennix (South Bend, Ind.) took sixth in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.23m.

On the women's side in the field events, Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.77m. Morgan Whitson (Moberly, Mo.) finished with a ninth place finish in the pentathlon, winning the shot put portion and placing fifth in the high jump.

Moving over to the track events, Laura Roxberg (Overland park, Kan.) came up big qualifying for tomorrow's finals. Roxberg came in fourth in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:49.33 and also earned a second place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:48.43. She will run in both of these events in the finals on Saturday. Roxburg will be joined by teammate Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Tex.), who took eighth in the mile run, clocking in at 4:49.96 and will be running in the 3,000 meter run finals as well. Teammate Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) made finals in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:21.05. The women's distance medley relay scored for the Tigers on Friday, coming in seventh overall with a time of 11:33.05 as well.

On the track for the men, both Ricky West (Scarborough, Ontario) and Blake Irwin (Bettendorf, Iowa) posted the third and fourth fastest times in the 800m run, qualifying for Saturday's finals at 1:50.31 and 1:52.13, respectively. Ryan Blackwell (Fenton, Mo.) earned a spot in the finals for the men in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:11.91. The men's distance medley team of Merid Seleshi (Ontario, Canada) Kellyn Fogarty (Marshalltown, Iowa) Kenneth Cushing (Wentzville, Mo.) and Kyle Rood (St. Peters, Mo.) earned a fourth place finish coming in with a time of 9:47.91. Rood ran a 4:05.69 anchor leg in the event to help the Tigers to their fourth-place finish.

Dan Quigley (St. Louis, Mo.) set a personal-best in the 5,000m run after clocking in at 14:03.49 to score a point for the Tigers in the overall team competition with an eighth-place finish. His time was also a school record by six seconds and is the fastest time by any Tiger, indoors or outdoors.Kyle Wessel (Hannibal, Mo.) also scored for the Tiger men, coming in seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 4.85m.

The final day of the Big 12 Championship on Saturday has many different Tigers looking for top spots. Some of the players to watch for include Jeremy Lampley (Ballwin, Mo.) who holds the top mark in the triple jump. Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) is seeded fourth in the shot put event with his mark of 18. 40 meters. Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) looks to leap the competition in the high jump.
